Demolition Hammer

Launch-week Steam threads asked a blunt question: how do you remove placed objects? Until 27 August 2026 the honest answer was often “you live with it.” Day 3 Update Notes added a Demolition Hammer so you can pick up and move already placed furniture in your base or camp. This page is that tool. It is not a secret melee weapon and it is not a full terraform gun the studio has not described.

The alpha homestead trailer in the middle of this article is the fantasy of plank-by-plank houses. Use it for mood. Use the patch note for the verb: pick up, move, place again. If your stove still sits in the only doorway, this is the page, not a new character.

How to get and use the hammer

Update Steam first. Mixed co-op builds are how one friend sees a movable chair and another sees a glued shrine. The host’s exe is the law. Then find or craft the Demolition Hammer in the live Early Access loop. This wiki will not invent a recipe ID the bench has not shown you. If the station list changed on Day 3 — several crafting quantities were rebalanced — believe the panel in front of you. Crafting and mining is the gather-smelt-repair loop.

Equip the hammer at the homestead, not in a Husk mall. Point it at furniture you placed: stove, chairs, benches, the piece blocking the door. The official wording is pick up and move already placed furniture. It does not claim you can delete a neighbor’s wagon, flatten a mesa, or refund a misplaced foundation as if this were a 1.0 city builder. If a wall will not lift, it may not be furniture. Build around it or live with the ugly beam until a later note says otherwise.

Move the object to a room you can close. Then close the door. Homestead building still owns the shell: foundation, walls, roof, well, Homestead Stove. The hammer exists so a misclick is not a wipe. It does not replace the well.

How not to turn demolition into a raid

A hammer swing is still a noise if you treat it like a celebration at the fence. Husks hunt hearing. Walk. Work in daylight. How to beat Husks applies in the yard. Do not “test” the tool on a planter full of barley. Farming is a calendar. A relocated stove should still sit indoors so cooking survives a sandstorm. Weather does not pause for interior design.

In co-op, announce before you pick up the shared kitchen. Four people relocating the same stove is how items vanish into an inventory argument. Day 3 also fixed world pickups and items dropped by friends. If a moved piece disappears, patch, then retry. Do not delete the ranch.

How this ties to quests and money

A Roof Against the Wind is architecture as a story verb. If that beat wants shelter, finish the roof, then tidy with the hammer. Do not pause the Marshall for a furniture montage. Missions is the order of operations. Sarah’s Bag is a satchel on the ground, not a crate you demolish; how to find Sarah’s Bag is the pickup page.

Dollars spent on a second ugly chair are dollars not spent on water in town. Bounties and money can wait until the door works. Clothing racks are for after the hammer has cleared a path to the bed. Beginner tips repeats that so it sticks.

When a later Steam note expands demolition to walls, barns, or terrain, the Updates Hub will say so. Until that post exists, treat the Demolition Hammer as furniture logistics. Pick up. Move. Close the door. Then return to the Guides Hub and cook something that actually does something.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

How do I remove placed objects in Western Rye?

Day 3 added a Demolition Hammer to pick up and move already placed furniture in your base or camp. Update Steam, then use that tool.

Does the hammer destroy walls and foundations?

The studio described furniture pickup and move. It did not publish a full terraform or wall-delete kit. Believe the live prompt.

Should I start a new save after a bad placement?

No. Use the hammer first. Wiping the ranch is how people lose a well that already worked.

Can I move a friend’s furniture in co-op?

Ask before you lift the shared stove. Patch every machine so pickup rules match. The host’s build is the law.
